The safety and security of your account information is of the highest importance.
As a security measure, you may receive a “verification required” message when adding your card to Apple Pay. Once verified, an on-screen message will appear stating that the card is ready for use. This verification is part of our multi-layered approach to security in payments.
Additionally, when we review mobile wallet providers we look for payment safety, quality of service, and ease of use for our members. When you make payments with Apple Pay and your Unitus card:
- Your full card number is not shown to the merchant or to Apple Pay.
- All transactions are monitored by Unitus’ 24×7 risk and fraud detection systems.
- Purchases made using Apple Pay are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability policies, so you won’t be held responsible for promptly reported unauthorized transactions.
-
For security reasons, we may need you to provide additional verification to add your Unitus card to Apple Pay. If necessary, Wallet or the Apple Watch app will provide instructions. Upon verification, you should receive a Wallet or Apple Watch app notification that your card is ready for Apple Pay. If you haven’t received a notification after an hour, please call us at the toll-free number on the back of your card.

Apple Pay will work with most Unitus consumer and small business Visa® credit cards and debit cards.

If you make an Apple Pay purchase with your Unitus card, the merchant may request authorization for an initial amount and send us the actual transaction amount later for payment. The initial authorized amount appears in your Wallet, but the actual transaction amount is deducted from your account.
This happens frequently in places where:
- You can add a tip (restaurants, salons)
- There can be a significant difference between the amount that’s authorized initially and the actual transaction amount (hotels, car rental agencies)
For most card purchases, we receive the payment request, including the actual transaction amount, within 3 business days of the transaction.

To return something you bought in-store with Apple Pay you will need your store receipt, just like you would for any other purchase. If the merchant asks you to swipe your card, you can credit the card you used to pay within the Apple Pay app by selecting the same card and holding your device to the contactless payment terminal.
Depending on the return and refund policies of the store, it may take several days for the return transaction to appear on your Unitus Visa card statement. We recommend keeping your receipt until the return posts to your account.
