Oregon Department of Transportation Data Breach
The Oregon Department of Transportation confirms that a data breach has compromised the driver’s licenses of 3.5 million Oregonians. A hacking organization breached computer systems at the Oregon DMV in a massive cyberattack.
The global breach targeted data transfer software called “MOVEit Transfer,” which ODOT uses to encrypt and transfer data files. The attack also targeted other government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy, and even some local financial institutions.
The cyberattack did not impact Unitus Community Credit Union. All member information is secure. However, your personal information could be at risk if hackers obtained your driver’s license data. ODOT reports the hackers could have access to first and last names, driver’s license or ID card numbers, dates of birth, physical addresses, and the last four digits of social security numbers. The agency says no payment or financial information was part of the breach.
The DMV says it cannot identify whether a specific person’s data was part of the breach. The agency says all Oregonians with a license or ID card should assume their information has been compromised. ODOT recommends actively monitoring your account statements and credit reports.
ODOT has set up a hotline for Oregonians who have questions or concerns. You can reach the agency about the data breach at 503-945-5000 or via email at ASKODOT@odot.oregon.gov. ODOT is also updating the public through this website: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/DMV/Pages/Data_Breach.aspx.
