Last Tuesday, Unitus hosted more than 30 professionals at our meeting of the local Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) Sister Society.

Helping women improve life for themselves and others

Karen Salman, Unitus Assistant Vice President of Operations Support and member of the Sister Societies’ Northwest steering committee, helped bring everyone together in order to help each other expand their career opportunities and collect donations for women in need.

“Since they began 10 years ago, the Global Women’s Leadership Network has provided women an excellent resource to advance, network, and make a true impact in their industries and communities, said Salman. “Their impact goes far beyond leadership building; during last week’s meeting for example we collected more than 400 health and hygiene items to donate to homeless women through WHAT, Women’s Housing and Transition.”

Enriching the tradition

This was the first 2019 meeting of the Portland/Vancouver Sister Society, and the second consecutive year Unitus has hosted the group’s gathering. Each event features a highly successful professional who facilitates an engaging dialogue with attendees. During last year’s event on March 15, 2018, Guest Speaker Allison Clarke led a discussion about the power of kindness. As a takeaway gift for attendees, Unitus purchased copies of her book The Kindness Habit: 5 Steps to Maximize Your Happiness and Impact for all in attendance.

This meeting featured Teri Bosley, President and Owner of Monarch Performance Group, who gave a presentation on how women can advance their careers by building executive presence. It took place only a few days after International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8, 2019.

The GWLN’s Big Impact

Since beginning in 2009, the network has recruited more than 2,600 members (both male and female), established 55 chapters throughout the US and in 18 other countries around the world, and raised more than $2.5 million for credit union families.
