Unitus Honored with Prestigious Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility and Community Service

Portland, Ore., November 1, 2017 – Unitus Community Credit Union received the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Community Service Award in recognition of their “Dream Come True” program which helps make memories for children suffering from serious or chronic illnesses.
In partnership with Oregon State University Football and Beaver Sport Properties, Unitus helped give seven local children and their families an unforgettable day attending an OSU home game.
The special guests meet the team and coaching staff, watch the team take the field from the sideline, and enjoy the game from club level seating. Each child also receives a personalized game jersey and autographed football to bring home after the game.
The Dora Maxwell Award was presented October 25, during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s (NWCUA) annual MAXX Convention in Spokane. Unitus was selected from participating credit unions across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
“This special program provided a day of excitement and joy for children and families when they most needed it,” said – NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang.
“We at BSP and OSU Athletics,” added Diane Penny, Vice President and General Manager of Beaver Sports Properties, “couldn’t be more proud and delighted to partner with Unitus Community Credit Union on this amazing community program. It’s unique partnerships like this which are so special because of the impact they bring to the lives of so many deserving members of the community.”
Unitus won the award in the second year of the “Dream Come True” program. They plan to expand the program to the Oregon State Beavers men’s and women’s basketball teams in the near future.
Having won the regional award, the program will now be considered for a national Dora Maxwell Award, one of the Credit Union Movement’s most prestigious honors.
