Portland, Ore., May 2, 2018 – In their efforts to help kids develop healthy money habits during National Credit Union Youth Week, Unitus staff from the Mall 205 branch visited fourth graders at Harrison Park Elementary School to promote saving habits and give out fun goodie bags.

On Thursday morning, April 26, two Member Advocates from the local Unitus branch, Kay Dizdarevic and Brianna Goerke, addressed the students along with Marissa Frost, Marketing Specialist.

The trio helped students consider how saving could help them realize their dreams and achieve their medium- and long-term goals. They delivered Youth Week goodie bags full of toys, treats, stickers, and fun savings activities to all 78 fourth-grade students at the school.

The visit was part of Unitus’ celebration of National Credit Union Youth Week with the mission to educate and encourage children to develop healthy savings habits.

During Youth Week, from April 23 through April 27, Unitus also held giveaways and staged kids’ activities at all ten branches to educate kids about the importance of saving in a fun, approachable way.

Branch staff handed out copies of Unitus’ Making Cents Newsletter to young members, a quarterly publication delivered to kids under 12 years of age which features jokes, word problems, and other money-based math exercises.

Children visiting branches also received a special coloring sheet starring Hamilton, Unitus’ mascot, as well as the chance to win a Moonjar Moneybox Budgeting Tool Kit.
