Unitus Donates 5,000+ Gifts to Community Kids in Need

Portland, Ore., December 19, 2017 – Unitus Community Credit Union recently hosted their annual Holiday Drive Shoebox Packing Party, where employees volunteered time to create personal care packages of donated goods for kids in need in the Vancouver, Salem and Portland Metro communities.
The event, held at Unitus Plaza in downtown Portland, marks the final week of the credit union’s fifteenth annual Holiday Drive, a four-week donation drive to benefit those served by Unitus’ Community Partners. Employees packed clear shoeboxes with gifts including necessities like toothbrushes, books and deodorant, and fun items like movies, toys and snacks to help make the holidays special for young boys and girls in need during the holiday season.
These shoeboxes were hand-delivered by Unitus employees to Unitus’ Community partners along with carloads of large items essential this time of year – winter jackets, warm blankets, and boxes of diapers for babies without permanent homes. All of the donations were gathered during the Holiday Drive which began November 13.
“The Holiday Drive benefits everyone,” said Aimee Berg, Community Development Officer at Unitus. “Our Community Partners appreciate the year-end push for donations, especially during cold winters like the one we’re having this year. They are the heroes and heroines constantly doing this work, so we could not be more happy to support them in their mission. On our end, our employees always love a good excuse to come together and contribute to a good cause! We are so grateful for their dedication, coming together to donate more than 5,000 gifts this year!”
