Let’s Build Sustainable Prosperity Around the World

Steve Stapp, Chair of Board of Directors of the WOCCU, speaks at WOCCU conference in Singapore.

A Message From the President & CEO

Given our heritage, you won’t be surprised that we’ve been working to improve financial transparency in our communities here in the Pacific Northwest.

But did you know about all the work we’ve been doing to make life better for communities around the world? (Being the Chairman of the World Council of Credit Unions really helps!)

In June, through the World Council’s Global Classroom program, we brought together young credit union professionals in Brazil to discuss the positive impacts of our credit union movement and share ideas for growth. That came on the heels of our exchange program with New Zealand’s First Credit Union. Through the program, two prominent Unitus employees flew to New Zealand for two weeks to share best practices, learn about community challenges and take in the unique culture of their credit union and community.

Want to read about more examples of our worldwide efforts? Check our blog for more stories of international guests we’ve hosted at our headquarters in downtown Portland. That includes a Contact Center manager from Colombia, a young social entrepreneur from Argentina, and more.

On a national level, Unitus has pledged support and funding for CUNA’s nationwide Open Your Eyes campaign. This campaign highlights everything our cooperative movement stands for. Credit unions around the country are collaborating to help more people realize the benefits of our movement. If you appreciate the work your credit union does, learn more and get involved!

Locally, we were thrilled to begin our official partnership with the Portland Timbers and Thorns FC. Not only are they beloved parts of Portland’s history, they are role models for our youth. Through the partnership, Timbers and Thorns players will visit local elementary students to read books and inspire a lifelong love of learning in our kids. What’s more, we have brought our Dream Come True program to the Timbers and Thorns FC to help children battling serious illness and their families experience moments they will cherish forever.

As Unitus members, I think you’ll agree. Life is better when we share knowledge and use our resources to help bring up the people around us. Why not extend that community around the world?

Thank you for being a part of this movement. Here’s to making an impact together.
