2021 Unitus Student Scholarship Recipients

(2 Minute Read) — Unitus is proud to announce the recipients of $17,500 in Unitus student scholarships for 2021!

Unitus Student Scholarships

Each year, Unitus awards seven $2,500 scholarships to assist with the cost of higher education.

The scholarships are available to outstanding student members as well as the child dependents, spouses, or significant others of Unitus employees.

Since the Unitus Scholarship Program launched in 2004, we’ve awarded financial assistance to 168 students totaling nearly $220,000.

Scholarship winners are scored in the areas of:

• Academic achievement
• Community involvement
• Quality of scholarship materials
• Commitment to pursuing postsecondary education

Applications are independently reviewed by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.

Madeleine S. – Tigard, OR
Madeleine will be attending Dartmouth College in New Hampshire in the fall, where she will major in Biology.

Sergio M. – Molalla, OR
Sergio will be attending University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon in the fall, where he will major in Computer Programming.

Lucy R. – Portland, OR
Lucy will be attending Baylor University in Texas in the fall, where she will major in Computer Science.

Josephine B. – Phoenix, OR
Josephine will be attending Pacific University in the fall and has not yet declared a major.

Sally N. – Happy Valley, OR
Sally currently attends University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon and is majoring in Advertising.

Jade M. – Tualatin, OR
Jade currently attends University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon and is majoring in Biology.

Sean B. – Portland, OR
Sean will be attending University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon in the fall, where he will major in Political Science.

About the author: Laine Carrillo

Laine Carrillo (she/they) joined Unitus as a Social Media Strategist in June 2021. She grew up in the Philippines before moving to the United States at thirteen, then received a BA in German and MA in Human Rights.

She belongs to the Asian and immigrant communities. Her experience working in human rights nonprofits includes social media content creation and management as well as grant writing.

When she is not crafting content or scrolling through social media apps, Laine enjoys reading, volunteering, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her partner.
